I am so happy to bring you the amazing scientific research results on the Volto Santo which were recently performed by Professor Dr. Gosbert Weth from Germany using a nuclear medical device. This device measures several different nuclear rays including alpha, beta and gamma. The results, "The image on the Manoppello (Sudarium) cloth was not created by coloring, but by an atomic change to the nitrogen molecules present in the organic substance." Praise God! It is with deep appreciation to both Patricia Enk the writer for Illumina Domine for granting me permission to post her recent article in its entirety on the findings of this recent study. As well as to Paul Badde, who has worked tirelessly for many years regarding the Volto Santo, who has helped me to learn so much more.
"Shout the good news from the mountaintops - Results of testing on the Veil of the Holy Face of Manoppello!"
(Pope Benedict XVI and Padre Carmine Cucinelli by Paul Badde.)
This precious relic of the Catholic Church, had very little world wide attention until the visit by Pope Benedict XVI in 2006. Prior to this visit, a little known Capuchin priest named Padre Domenico da Cese became the "First Apostle of the Holy Face". It was precisely the work by Padre Domenico, that so many others learned of the connection to the Shroud of Turin and the Volto Santo known as the Holy Face of Jesus. For those of you who may not be aware, the Volto Santo is a woven cloth made out of a secretion by the Pinna Nobilis mollusk. When this secretion hits salt water it becomes keratin, after it is cleaned, it can be dyed but never painted by any means such as oils or watercolors due to the micro structure. Chiara Vigo and her family lineage are and were the master weavers of marine byssus.

Pictured above: September 1977, at the National Eucharistic Congress, Padre Domenico organized an exhibition on the Holy Face. Pope Paul VI attended this congress which was held in Pescara, Italy. At this time Renzo Allegri learned about the Volto Santo, and wrote an article which was soon published in "GENTE". Then Paul Otto Schenker, the founder of "Immaculate Editions" in Switzerland, later published it in German in "Zeichen Mariens" in November 1978, two months after the death of Padre Domenico who had visited the exhibition of the Shroud of Turin who was then struck by a speeding car. Padre Domenico in his final words, "It is an offer for the Shroud of Turin." So began the knowledge of the Holy Face of our Lord and the connection to the Shroud of Turin. Due to the work and love of Padre Domenico for the Volto Santo, the world would begin to learn of this remote Capuchin Church that held the greatest relic the Catholic Church has ever had, the true Face of Our Risen Lord! Even, St. Padre Pio's last known bilocation was on the morning of September 22, 1968 at approximately 6 a.m., before his death on September 23, 1968, one must ask why? In this image of our Lord, one can truly say, they are looking into the Face and Eyes of He who has loved the world so much as to die for our salvation.
Recent News: On October 4, 2024, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone (San Francisco, California) was presented with a copy of the Volto Santo by Deacon R. Christoph Sandoval. Archbishop Cordileone had visited the Basilica of the Volto Santo in previous years.
